Breaking Bread Under the Same Sky: Hope and Humanity at Iftar in Gaza

Every evening as the sun sets over Gaza, families gather with quiet anticipation for the moment of iftar the breaking of the fast after a long day of Ramadan. In a place where daily life can be filled with hardship and uncertainty, sharing a warm meal together becomes more than tradition; it becomes a moment of comfort, dignity, and hope. Plates are passed, prayers are whispered, and for a short while the worries of the day are softened by the simple power of community.

Our teams on the ground help bring these moments to life by preparing and distributing fresh iftar meals every single day throughout Ramadan. Volunteers work tirelessly to ensure that families, children, and the elderly have a nourishing meal waiting for them at sunset. The atmosphere is filled with gratitude neighbors sitting side by side, children smiling as they receive their meals, and communities strengthening their bonds through the shared experience of breaking the fast together.

This daily iftar initiative reminds us that compassion can travel across borders and reach those who need it most. Each meal represents solidarity and care from people who believe that no one should face Ramadan alone. These gatherings are not only about food—they are about restoring hope, preserving dignity, and reminding families in Gaza that they are not forgotten.

This effort is made possible through the generosity and support of the Lily Jay Foundation, whose commitment allows us to share iftar with families in Gaza every day during Ramadan.
