Gaza’s Forgotten Winter: Families Facing the Storms Without Shelter

ree

This winter in Gaza began with heavy rains and heartbreaking scenes. Families already displaced by years of conflict now face flooding, disease, and freezing temperatures all while living under makeshift tents.

Most of Gaza’s population has been forced from their homes. Now, with winter storms, their temporary shelters are collapsing under rainwater. Many tents are filled with sewage-soaked puddles. Parents are watching their children fall sick, without clean water, warm blankets, or a safe place to recover.

One mother, Fatima, stood in the rain crying as she showed the flooded floor inside her tent. “Our flour is ruined. Everything is wet. We have nothing left,” she said. Nearby, Nihad tried to dry her family’s blankets in the cold wind, after water poured through the roof of their fragile shelter.

260,000 families nearly 1.5 million people urgently need proper shelter assistance. Yet, only a fraction of what’s needed has reached Gaza due to political delays and aid restrictions.

A UN assessment shows the scale of devastation: more than 80% of Gaza is in ruins. The storm only magnifies the crisis threatening not just homes, but lives.

Winter in Gaza isn’t just cold it’s dangerous. Every drop of rain brings a reminder that thousands of families are living without protection, without certainty, and without the world fully seeing their reality.

At our foundation, we believe in shining a light on stories like these not to shock, but to remind us of our shared humanity. No child should go to sleep cold, no mother should have to choose between warmth and safety.

This winter, let’s keep Gaza in our thoughts. Their struggle is not just one of conflict, but of survival.
