Under the Evening Sky in Gaza: Breaking the Fast With Hope

As the sun set over Gaza this evening, families quietly gathered, waiting for the moment the fast would end. Despite the hardships many face, small groups sat together on simple mats, sharing what had been carefully prepared for iftar. When the call to prayer was finally heard, hands reached first for dates and water. After a long day of fasting, the first bites brought visible relief. Children sat beside their parents, smiling softly as they began to eat. Some paused between bites to whisper “thank you,” their gratitude simple but deeply felt.

Around the meal, there was a sense of togetherness that hardship could not break. Parents made sure the children were served first. Neighbors shared what they had with one another. Even the smallest portions became something meaningful when shared with care.

For these families, iftar was not only about ending the fast. It was a moment of comfort, dignity, and unity a reminder that kindness still reaches them. This evening of compassion and shared humanity was made possible through the generosity and dedication of our supporters and donors. At Lily Jay Foundation, we are honored to stand with families in Gaza and help provide warmth, nourishment, and hope during this blessed time of iftar.
