Forced to Relocate: Our Sponsored Families in Sudan Begin a New Chapter

Al-Obeid, Sudan | Lily Jay Foundation

For families already forced to flee their homes by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, finding a safe place to shelter is a blessing. But for the displaced families supported by Lily Jay Foundation in Al-Obeid, that sense of stability was suddenly disrupted once again.

Our sponsored community had been temporarily sheltering in a school, where families were trying to rebuild some sense of normality despite the hardship surrounding them.

However, the community was recently required to relocate from the school to another displacement camp.

Once again, families who had already lost so much had to pack their belongings and move.

Standing Beside Our Families

When our field team received news of the relocation, they accompanied the families throughout the transition, helping to support them as they moved into their new surroundings.

The move meant that our usual humanitarian services had to be temporarily paused while the families settled into the new camp.

Despite these challenges, our commitment to this community remained unchanged.

Rebuilding More Than Shelter

As families arrived at their new location, our team began preparing for the next stage of support.

One of the immediate priorities was establishing a new space for the community's Khalwa, a traditional Qur'anic learning school where children and community members can continue their Islamic education.

For families living through displacement, having a place to gather, pray and learn can provide comfort and a sense of belonging during an incredibly difficult time.

Watch the Relocation

Through videos and photographs shared by our team on the ground, we are documenting this important transition so our supporters can see the realities these families face.

The footage shows the new camp, the movement of shelters and the difficult conditions families are working to overcome.

Our Journey Continues

Relocation is not the end of our responsibility. It is the beginning of another chapter.

With the continued support of our supporters, Lily Jay Foundation remains committed to standing beside these displaced families as they establish their new community.

And our next step is something incredibly special: building a new place of worship for the families who have lost so much.
