Mosque Construction Begins in Sudan's Displacement Camp
Al-Obeid, Sudan | Lily Jay Foundation

After the recent relocation of our sponsored displacement camp in Al-Obeid, Sudan, our team began working towards an important new goal: establishing a dedicated mosque for the families who now call this camp home.
These families have endured the unimaginable. fleeing conflict, leaving behind their homes and possessions, and facing the uncertainty of displacement.
Yet through every hardship, their faith remains a source of strength.
Now, with the generosity of our supporters, a new house of Allah is beginning to take shape.
Building a Place for Prayer, Learning and Community
A mosque is more than a building.
For displaced families, it is a place where the community can come together for their daily prayers, where children can learn about their religion, and where people can find peace amid uncertainty.
Following the relocation, our team identified the need to restore a dedicated space for worship and Islamic learning.
Work is now beginning on a new mosque to serve the displaced community.
From an Empty Space to a House of Worship
Our field team has begun documenting the early stages of the project, capturing the effort involved in establishing a new place of worship in challenging circumstances.
Every stage represents progress towards giving these families something meaningful and lasting.
For people who have lost their homes, helping them establish a mosque is about more than constructing a physical structure.
It is about helping restore dignity, community and hope.
Watch the Beginning of Construction
We believe our supporters deserve to see the difference their generosity makes.
Below, you can follow the beginning of the mosque project through footage provided by our team in Sudan.
From the first preparations to the mosque taking shape, these moments tell a story of faith and resilience.
A Beautiful Form of Sadaqah Jariyah
In Islam, supporting the establishment of a mosque is a beautiful act of charity.
The Prophet Muhammad ļ·ŗ said:
"Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise."
ā Sahih al-Bukhari 450; Sahih Muslim 533
We pray that Allah accepts the generosity of everyone who has supported this project and allows this mosque to become a lasting source of benefit for the displaced community.
The construction has begun. Soon, inshaAllah, this new mosque will welcome its worshippers.
