Ramadan in a War Zone: Families Break Their Fast in Sudan

As the sun set over the city, families in Al Obeid gathered quietly to break their fast, holding on to the traditions of Ramadan even while living in the middle of an active war zone. In a place where the sounds of conflict have become part of daily life, the simple act of sharing an iftar meal carried deep meaning for many households.

Throughout the day, volunteers worked to deliver food to families who have been struggling to secure even the most basic necessities. In recent months, many residents have faced severe challenges accessing food, as supply routes have been disrupted and markets have become unreliable. For parents observing Ramadan while trying to provide for their children, the worry of how they would prepare an iftar meal has weighed heavily.

Even in the middle of conflict, moments like these remind communities of the strength found in faith, compassion, and solidarity. The LilyJay Foundation confirmed that this distribution is part of its continuing humanitarian efforts, and the organization plans to keep providing food assistance to vulnerable families in Al Obeid and other communities affected by the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
