Sudan: Communities Gather for Iftar as Families Break Their Fast Together

In Sudan this evening, families and children gathered to share a warm iftar meal after a long day of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. As the sun slowly set and the call to prayer approached, people sat together in small groups, waiting patiently to break their fast.

We prepared and distributed meals to families in need, ensuring that everyone present could take part in the evening’s iftar. When the moment finally arrived, hands reached for dates and water, followed by warm food shared among neighbors and friends.

Children sat closely together, smiling as they began to eat. Some quietly said “thank you” while holding their plates, grateful for the meal and the chance to share the moment with others. For many families facing hardship, the simple act of breaking the fast together brought comfort and a sense of unity.

Iftar in Sudan is not only a time for nourishment but also a moment of community, reflection, and compassion. Gathering around a shared meal reminds families that even during difficult times, kindness and generosity continue to bring people together.

This iftar initiative was made possible through the generosity of supporters and donors. At Lily Jay Foundation, we are honored to help provide meals and support to families in Sudan during this blessed month of Ramadan.
