Im a Hajjah!

Updated: Jan 19, 2025

In 2018, I embarked on one of the most transformative journeys of my life—a pilgrimage to Hajj with my husband. This sacred trip was not only a personal aspiration but also a unique part of our marriage story, as performing Hajj together was a promise outlined in our nikkah contract.

Looking back, it feels surreal to think about the discussions leading up to our marriage. Among all the hopes and dreams we shared, I had one special request: that we fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam, Hajj, as a couple. Including this in our nikkah contract was a way to solidify our shared commitment to Allah and each other. It wasn’t just about fulfilling an obligation—it was about starting our married life grounded in faith and unity.

The Sacred Pilgrimage

Arriving in Makkah was overwhelming in the best way possible. The sight of the Kaaba for the first time left me speechless, my heart filled with awe and gratitude. It’s impossible to describe the sense of humility and insignificance one feels standing before the House of Allah, surrounded by millions of believers from every corner of the world.

Performing tawaf (circling the Kaaba) with my husband by my side was deeply symbolic for me. It wasn’t just a ritual; it was a moment of unity, devotion, and shared purpose. Every step we took felt like a prayer, every breath a reminder of why we were there. Together, we stood shoulder to shoulder in prayer, asking Allah for guidance, forgiveness, and blessings for our life ahead.

The journey from Mina to Arafat, Muzdalifah, and back was challenging but profoundly rewarding. Standing on the plains of Arafat, where we prayed for hours under the open sky, was the most spiritually intense moment of my life. I felt a closeness to Allah I had never experienced before, as if the weight of my prayers were being carried straight to Him.

Lessons and Reflections

Hajj taught me lessons I carry to this day. It reminded me of the fleeting nature of this world, the importance of humility, and the power of faith. I saw people from all walks of life, united by their love for Allah, shedding every worldly attachment in pursuit of His mercy.

The trip also deepened my bond with my husband. Sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with him strengthened our partnership and reaffirmed the importance of placing Allah at the center of our marriage. Hajj wasn’t just a spiritual journey; it was also a journey of love, patience, and mutual support.

For those considering making Hajj, especially with your spouse, I can’t emphasize enough how life-changing it is. Whether it’s part of your nikkah contract or a goal you aspire to, the pilgrimage is a reminder of our ultimate purpose and a chance to realign your life with what truly matters.

Hajj 2018 was more than a trip; it was a promise fulfilled and a journey I will cherish forever.
