A Fragile Casefire Shattered: Grief Deepens in Gaza and Lebanon

The past 24 hours have shown how quickly hope can collapse in a region already exhausted by loss. Despite a ceasefire that was meant to shield civilians, new waves of strikes in Gaza and Lebanon have left families grieving once again.
In Gaza City and Khan Younis, airstrikes tore through residential areas where people had finally begun to feel a small sense of safety. Homes were destroyed within seconds. Women, children, and entire families were among the dead. Hospitals, already stretched beyond their limits, struggled to treat dozens of wounded civilians arriving at once many in critical condition.
In neighbourhoods like Shujaiya and Zeitoun, residents described scenes of panic and heartbreak as they dug through rubble searching for relatives. The attacks, which struck areas that were supposed to be protected under the ceasefire terms, reinforced what many Palestinians have been saying for weeks: the agreement exists on paper, but not in reality.
Beyond Gaza, the grief spread north. In Lebanon’s Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp, airstrikes killed several Palestinians, most of them teenagers. Their families, already displaced and vulnerable, were left to bury children who never had the chance to grow up.
Humanitarian groups and officials warn the ceasefire is rapidly deteriorating. More than a promise has been broken trust, security, and even the hope of a pause in suffering have been shattered.
As the world watches, one truth becomes painfully clear: civilians are paying the price for decisions far beyond their control. And unless decisive action is taken to restore and enforce the ceasefire, the cycle of devastation will only deepen.
