Lebanon: Two Killed in Israeli Drone Strike on Southern Town

Two people were killed on Sunday when an Israeli drone struck a vehicle in southern Lebanon, the country’s Ministry of Health confirmed.

The attack took place in the Ayn al-Mizrab area, north of Bint Jbeil. Reports indicate that the car was completely destroyed, and nearby buildings were damaged.

Israel’s military said the strike targeted a Hezbollah member, accusing the group of violating a ceasefire that began in November 2024.

Since the ceasefire, Israel has carried out multiple attacks in Lebanon, despite the agreement that ended over a year of fighting, which caused widespread destruction and heavy losses, including to Hezbollah’s leadership. Israel also continues to occupy five sites on the Lebanese side of the border.

Israel, supported by the United States, expects Hezbollah to disarm. Hezbollah has refused, leaving Lebanon’s government and army to navigate the difficult task of satisfying international demands while avoiding direct conflict with the group. Hezbollah’s losses include the killing of its longtime leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in September 2024.

Lebanon’s government is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss the army’s progress in disarming Hezbollah in the south, with plans to extend the process nationwide by the end of 2025—a timeline Hezbollah has rejected.
